BE WITH NATURE

Title: WE ARE NOT ACTIVISTS

Winona Laduke is an American-Anishaabeg native environmental activist. She attended Harvard, gave testimony to the United Nations in Geneva on exploitation of native lands, and has spent most of her life working towards conserving indegenous natural resources.

This quote is one of my favorites because it is still powerful to this day. We have reached a time period where people can truly hear these words while witnessing the degradation of our natural systems on our planet.

Whether you support soil regeneration, non toxic land management, renewable energy, or environmentally conscious construction, it all comes under the umbrella to what is actually sustainable for life on this planet.

We have many sustainable and even cost effective solutions to the environmental problems of today. So what is the hold up? The answer, usually comes down to human greed. What is often best to sustain giant corporations and sometimes even small businesses, is not the solution that is sustainable for nature or life in the long term.

If we want to see real sustainable change on this planet in any direction, we need to stop thinking of people asking for these reasonable changes as activists. We are NOT activists. We are life oriented human beings that want to pass down a sustainable earth to our children. Nothing more, nothing less.

💚Many people in So Cal are wondering what they can do to get less toxicity in their life. We know that herbicides and pesticides sprayed on our crops are coating the food we eat, as well as being absorbed into it.

💚This is impacting our community's health and safety from the application of these chemicals right down to the produce we are ingesting. It isn't hopeless though! The community can start controling their produce by growing it themselves.

💚A common misconception to growing your own food is that you need large spaces of land to grow high yields. However, this couldn't be farther from the truth. A balcony with reasonable sun, a simple shelf space for indoor hydroponics, or even a small backyard garden bed can produce way more than you think.

Welcome to Grace & Soil, a place where love for the earth begins with the ground beneath our feet. I created Grace & Soil to share the stories of the people, organizations, and communities working the protect and restore our planet, with a special focus on soil health and regeneration. Through my articles, I explore practical solutions and inspiring ideas that can help us care for the living soil that sustains our ecosystems and our food. I also offer thoughtfully selected products for small space, non-toxic, and soil friendly gardening making it easier for individuals and families to grow food in healthier ways, even when space is limited. My hope is to inspire people to see that caring for the earth doesn't always require a huge project; sometimes, meaningful change can begin with something as simple as a handful of healthy soil, and the willingness to grow something.
